Khabib v McGregor – Believe the Hype

Conor McGregor will face Khabib Nurmagomedov in less than three weeks at UFC 229. The fight is shaping up to be one of biggest in UFC history and an important bout for both fighters. The hype isn’t all show though. Khabib v McGregor will pit two of the sports best against each other in what is sure to be an explosive fight.
 
For McGregor, the UFC 229 fight will be his first in the UFC in over two years. It will also be his first fight following the reportedly $100 million payday he received from his fight with Money Mayweather. Although the McGregor v Mayweather fight was significantly more spectacle than sport, it received a huge amount of interest, interest that may well spill over to his upcoming fight with Khabib.


 
Although no longer a champion after being stripped of both his Featherweight and Lightweight Championships due to inactivity, McGregor comes into the fight with 21 wins and only 3 defeats. In the other corner, Khabib’s dominant record is well documented and he’ll be looking to score his 27th win while hoping to avoid his first defeat.
 
Many believe that Khabib is coming into the fight at his best while McGregor, depending on who you speak to, is either past his prime or rusty after his hiatus. UFC President Dana White would, however disagree. “He [McGregor] is one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC,” said white in a recent interview with ESPN. “When you talk about pound for pound best in the world, this is a guy who is actually living proof. He jumps from weight class to weight class and he is literally willing to fight anybody in the world who thinks they're better than him.
 
Regardless of what the pundits are expecting, McGregor v Mayweather is shaping up to be one for the history books.
